Tutors are not required to have a background check to use our site.
We’re here to help students make an informed choice, as opposed to making that choice for them. We have lots of learners for whom a background check isn’t important. It is not, therefore, a requirement for tutors who use our site to provide a background check.
If a tutor has a clean Enhanced DBS check dated within the last two years that we have seen proof of, there will be an ‘I have a background check’ badge on their profile, just below their photo:
We are only able to process Enhanced DBS checks on our platform, though this does not mean that a tutor may have some form of background check, such as a basic check or police check, and would always recommend that if this is important to a student they ask their tutor to bring any background checks they possess to the first lesson or trial lesson!
Tutors should not claim to have a background check on their profile without submitting evidence to Tutorful of holding the relevant documentation.
Our terms and conditions (https://tutorful.co.uk/terms) set out what we accept when awarding the ‘Background Checked Status’:
'Background Checked Status' means a Tutor displaying the ‘I have a background check’ badge on their profile page on the Website. Background checks must have been awarded within 2 years of the date on which a Tutor creates an account on the Website, and within 3 years at any point in time thereafter. Within these time frames, background checks will be accepted if they are an enhanced check provided by the Disclosure and Barring Service, Disclosure Scotland or Access Northern Ireland. Tutorful cannot verify any claim made by Tutors within their profile or in any of other communication which relates to them having a valid background check other than through the awarding of the “Background Checked Status”.
