Having your first online lesson? That’s fantastic!
Our online classroom is a really useful resource for you to have lessons with your tutor within the comfort of your own home. There are loads of helpful features you and your tutor can use to enhance your lessons, share resources, and communicate with each other! To ensure you’re all set up and ready to go, please ensure you have gone through the following checks prior to your first lesson so your lesson will go smoothly without any technical hiccups!
Ensuring you are set up for Success
The classroom is only compatible with either laptops or desktop computers - please ensure that you have either option available for your lesson, as unfortunately the classroom is not compatible with tablets or smartphones at the moment.
We recommend using either Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox to run your online lessons - whilst you are able to use the latest versions of Safari or Microsoft Edge to access the classroom, we have found that the classroom runs most effectively using Chrome or Firefox! If you do not currently have either installed, they are free to download from the internet - simply search the browser name and follow the prompts on their website.
Testing Your Browser
It is really important to go through the demo version of the online classroom and do a browser test before each lesson you have, as this will ensure your camera and microphone are allowed in your browser, and that your internet connection is fast enough to host the classroom. You can also get an idea of what the classroom will look like during your lesson on the day, and you can experiment with the features that are available for you!
You can access both the browser test and the demo classroom by going into your next upcoming online lesson, clicking to view the lesson details, and clicking ‘Join Lesson’ as shown in the image above - the following pop-up will give you access.
You will be prompted by pop-ups to allow your camera and microphone into your browser, however if you have any issues with this please refer to our guide here for further help. If your wireless connection is not strong enough, you can always try using an ethernet cord plugged directly into your laptop or computer. For more information on this, feel free to look through our handy guide here!
If there are any issues with the classroom connectivity or it is slow to load, it is best to clear your browser cookies and cache prior to closing and reopening a fresh window before logging back in.
Joining Your Lesson
As the classroom is on our online platform, you will need to go to the https://tutorful.co.uk/ website and log in using your email address and password so you are in your account. Around 10 minutes before the lesson is scheduled to go ahead, there will be a green banner across of the webpage with an option to ‘Join Lesson’! You can also join this from the lesson booking itself as mentioned above - for more information, please view our guide here.
