At Tutorful, we want to ensure that the payment process is as smooth and hassle-free as possible, which is why we’ve always had a cashless system in place that just allows you to focus on having lessons with your chosen tutor.
However, a new law has come into effect from September 13th that means all online payments must be authenticated with your bank before they are processed. Whilst this does add another step to the payment process, we’ve made it as simple as possible to deal with!
When you first confirm your lesson with a new tutor, you’ll be asked to enter your payment details. Once you’ve done this, you’ll be sent a code from your bank - this will either come via SMS, email or through your banking app, each bank does this a little differently. Once you’ve received this, you’ll just need to enter the code on the lesson confirmation page, and your lesson will then be all set to go ahead!
Future lessons with the same tutor will then automatically be confirmed, so you won’t need to re-enter your payment details for every single lesson. We’ll take payment 24 hours after each lesson takes place, and notify you whenever we do so. However, your bank may ask for your card to be re-authenticated when we do go to take a lesson payment, but this shouldn’t be for every lesson. In this situation, we’ll send you a message to let you know, alongside a link to a dedicated ‘Checkout’ form. All you’ll then need to do is to fill out the form, and in a similar way to how your first lesson was confirmed, you’ll receive a code from your bank to re-authenticate the payments.
Unfortunately, we don’t have any control as to how many times your bank asks for authentication, so it may happen multiple times. However, having greater payment security online is never a bad thing, and we've worked hard to make these changes as easy as possible for users to deal with!
Please be aware, these new measures mean that we cannot take card information over the phone.
