While your personal circumstances will mostly dictate what timeslots you can commit to teaching new students, we’ve analysed our booking data to help you build a sustainable and successful business on Tutorful.
What does committing to a time slot actually mean?
When you mark a slot as committed, you are making a professional promise to our community.
Committing means that students expect you to be available to teach in any slot you have marked. If a student books a slot you’ve committed to, they expect that lesson to go ahead as planned. Because reliability is the foundation of the student-tutor relationship, we hold tutors accountable for these slots. Repeatedly cancelling or failing to show up for lessons in committed slots will negatively impact your profile visibility and your status on the platform.
Only commit to times when you are 100% certain you can be at your desk and ready to teach.

What are the best hours to be available?
While every tutor has a different schedule, our data shows very clear trends in when students actually want to learn. If you wish to maximise your chances of getting new students, we recommend focusing your availability during these high-demand windows:
- Weekdays: The majority of enquiries are made for lessons between 4:00 PM and 9:00 PM
- Weekends: Over 90% of enquiries are for lessons starting between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM.
However, there are still students who seek lessons outside of these hours, so include any timeslots you can commit to.
Only 0.5% of all Lesson Booking Requests occur in the hours of 11:00 PM and 6:00 AM. Unless you are specifically targeting these times and can genuinely commit to them, we recommend keeping these graveyard hours closed.
If I open more slots, will I get more enquiries?
If you open timeslots that you are not realistically able to commit to teaching new students in, this will, over time, reduce your exposure to new students.
Interestingly, there is no direct correlation between the total number of free slots on your calendar and the number of enquiries you receive. Students are more interested in the quality of your profile than the sheer volume of your availability.
Rather than trying to be available 24/7, your time is much better spent optimising your profile.

The Golden Rule: Quality over quantity. Build a profile that shines, and only commit to a schedule you can realistically maintain.
